Evaluation of last decade

Everywhere our people talking about politics on the basis of their parties and the politicizing the whole is getting intense. But there are few apolitical people, they are talking about development. Last decade had witnessed two general elections, so we had two spans of years and two MPs as well (PP. Koya 2004-2009) and Hamdulla (2009-2013). We have three fields that the development is needed essentially, these are Medical, Education and Transport respectively, though the transportation sector is getting enhanced, the other two fields are remaining unenhanced.  The reasons behind the worse transportation problems are not any other factors but it is other two fields of course (Medical and Education), if we had fulfilled these two fields, we could meet the transportation problems..
We are approaching 2014, development doesn’t meant urbanization or westernization but it is the modernization of all fields, for instance, Education, Medical etc..  Still we don’t have any medical or engineering college as our own; still our students are flown from Islands to somewhere else for gaining education. Centres of Calicut University came to exist in our islands when in PM. Sayeed’s epoch, it was a decade ago course started in Kamath, Andtoth and Kavaratti islands. Why didn't our government approach any other universities for further colleges and educational institution? Being a Union Territory, we could start affiliated colleges from any Central Universities.

Identity V/s Politics

What is our Politics? What is our Identity? We are few Islanders living midst of blue sea, our identity is 'Dweepukar'. A shadow line can be seen between us, that is our Politics. That Shadow line divides our people into Two shores. Now the political tides began to ebb towards these two shores with worse intensity. These ebbing tides will be worse than before, it will dismantle our identity as we had witnessed before. These Tides are ebbing for their sake, we are few coral pebbles !!!That was a morning in Agatti isle, as I woke up as usually, but everywhere encompassed with violence unusually. As I was driving my motorbike through tiny narrow road, I had seen two motorbikes were burning in the road and heavy things were laying in the road, I had puzzled with uncommonness of my Island. Some where mob were gathering, hurling, abusing and so on. The fact is that, it was a time approaching 2009 General election. I hadn't seen any violence except in Shakespearian Plays and I hadn't heard any agitated mobs except in news regarding Gujrat riots. I returned to my home without playing, recalling the past glory of my Agatti, it has lost, it has washed out by those political tides.

WHO WILL BE.....???

Will 2014 be a Milestone for Lakshadweep? Since 1967 Lakshadweep people had been sending their representative to the Lakshadweep. When four decades ago, a young man made his debut as the Member of Parliament at the age of 26. Then the world witnessed his odysseys and his glorious triumphs. PM.Sayeed, the architecture of modern Lakshadweep. Islanders used to call him Sayeed Sahib.
When in 2004 General Election, Lakshadweep witnessed a political uprising against the unchanging leadership. PP. Koya, a medical doctor made his triumph over PM. Sayeed. PP.koya was the only non-congress MP from Lakshadweep. He served Islanders four year of span. Yet again a political succession had seen in 2009 General Election. Hamdullah Sayeed, 26 year aged young man ascended the throne as the Member of Parliament. His victory over PP. Koya encompasses the revenge for 2004 General Election.
Decades had gone, years had gone, a new General Election is approaching. Will it be a Milestone for Islanders? A question will be engraved in all Islanders mind, who will be the new MP? Many apolitical (non-political) well wishers aspiring a change, change means neither political nor leadership change, but a change should be there in socio-economic aspects of Lakshadweep. As all elections, islanders are in expectation, people unconsciously pregnant with a lot of hopes. “World is changing, yet our islands unchanged! Will 2014 General Election bring changes?
In the present scenario of Lakshadweep politics there are two major political sides, Indian National Congress and NCP. As the General election is approaching, both camps have declared their election candidates. In Congress camp, its obvious that Hamdulla Sayeed will have been retained as their candidate. In NCP camp, Mohd Faisal.PP has been declared as their candidate officially for the counterpart of Hamdullah Sayeed. Mohd Faisal. PP is a MBA graduate from Androth Island, yet another young Androthean ! Anyway anyhow, forthcoming days will have been encompassed with political dramas and political turmoil. As someone had said '' Politics is the Opium for all people '', whether 2014 brings changes or not, whether it be the milestone or not. We are few! We are known to each other! More and more, We are Islanders. Let's keep Dweep Brotherhood.

Boardingnization of Lakshadweep Students : a case study

Dropouts and Boardingnization are two evils that have continued to plague our educational system for long. Dropouts means, withdrawal of children from schools. Boardingnization is a non-dictionary term, which means that parents forced to admit their children to any boarding schools in Mainland. Dropouts from Lakshadweep schools is not a new emerged phenomena but now a days this thing increasing rapidly. The main reason behind the dropouts is obvious, that is the valueless education of Lakshadweep schools. Our parents are afraid about their children’s future in our schools, thus, they prefer boarding schools to admit their children. But our parents are ignorant about veiled evils within the boarding schools. Being a victim of Boardingnization, I can say that many Boarding schools are designed form of juvenile homes.

Our parents are mainly approaching some so called boarding schools and hostels in mainland. Some of these are Crescent Boarding Madrasa vellimuk, AL-Ansar Vadakara, AL-Irshad Malappuram and Ansar Boarding Kottakal etc. The approximated strength of Lakshadweep students studying in these boarding schools is Five Hundred and more. These boarding schools are only instances; around twenty boarding schools are there in Malabar area, which are largely peopled with Lakshadweep students.

Unfortunately I had visited a Boarding Madrasa in Malappuram district, I had seen students of 4 to 7 classes standing in gloomy faces, and they were gazing out through their windows to the play ground. Actually they are caged, they are victimised to the boardingnization. The time, the bell rang they went to the mess to have their tea; the mess cook distributing only two pieces of tiger biscuit. They were far away from the warmth of their mothers, they were removed from their own kitchens, and to them, the white sands of their island’s beach became a distant vision. If consider the high school and higher secondary schools students, the education is being provided by Boarding schools is not acceptable, because previous year (2012-2013) approximately Eight SSLC students were failed in a Boarding school in Calicut district.

Gandhi said “Education is the drawingout of the best in child”. Without their mother’s warmth how can a student draw out his potential?

“Bringback them to our soil...
Let them laugh without tears....
Let them study from sea shore....
Let them fly to the endless wisdom''.

Journalism in Lakshadweep.

Journalism is an alien niche in Lakshadweep. As all the professions journalism has too a significant place in Lakshadweep but unfortunately the soil of Lakshadweep becomes an alien niche for the aspirants of journalism. As the emergence of modern scenario, the scope of journalism is also emerged as an inevitable part of modern life, but in Lakshadweep, the shadow of journalism is not appeared yet. The Right to information and Freedom to expression are the Rights, which are the unique traits of Democracy. Though, Lakshadweep is one of the union territories of India, the Democracy is a distant dream for the Islanders, it is better to say about Lakshadweep government “Of the bureaucrat, by the bureaucrat, for the bureaucrat”. India’s so called news papers like The Hindu, Times of India and Indian Express are did notlaunch yet, even Malayalam news papers, such as Manorama, Madhirboomi appeared there after a day or more than days, Islanders are reading these tattered news papers from Kerala, they have no news papers as their own. Lakshadweep Times is appeared as part of administrative notification, though it is not a daily news paper it is the only news source about Lakshadweep. Amir Puthiyathanoda’s Dweep Times is an exceptional case, though it is appeared weekly or monthly it has a revolutionary journalistic sense.

Our Readers.

We might have heard about unheard melodies and untold stories but we do not heard about unread readers. Don't get puzzled because these unread readers are all Lakshadweepians. As our geographical alienation, literature and media are too alienated to us. Even now in 2012 we don't have any news paper, and our people are being read tattered news papers from Keralaor somewhere else. Do you think about this crisis before?. Being an Islander you should think about it because news paper is the source from which people can get the information about all. We have Lakshadweep times, it is an unique news paper about Lakshadweep administrator and his colleagues. Do we need our people's own or a democratic news paper?

A Quest for my ancestors.....A little walks through the Blue Sea.

A journey in search of the ancestors, a look back to the bygone decade. A step towards the truths which untold by the blue sea. Is our real history in a deep sleep? We have learned many things from written folios. Will that become a told story one day?
Who were our real ancestors? I am not just writing down the unknown but reading it out. I am not tying the papers together but I am trying to unknot the knots. We can't write history but we can read it. We can't write our past as we can't predict our future. we are merely readers sandwiched between past and future.
This scribbling is merely an outcome of a reading about our own heard ancestors. There may be errors as well as familiar stories in my reading. And we might have read all these in the dusted books. I am not re-reading the red ones. This is a journey through the read to the unread.
If we have a look at the historical folios we can come across the old and untold stories of the age old island. It is told that King Cheraman Perumal had ruled some island when he had come across many fabulous islands on his voyage through the Lakshadweep Sea. Similar to this there are many other historical events in the historical folios of Lakshadweep. The history of Lakshadweep is considered to be begun centuries ago. There may arise some unanswered questions in the mind of a person who reads out the historical pages.
How did habitation come into existence in the scattered islands of Arabian sea? From where did the roots of the islanders originate? The language of each island is different from the other. Which is the origin of these languages? Here remain many unanswered questions.

A Caution Alert to DWEEP SISTERS

Somiya, one of the victims of brutal rape in Kerala, and Nirbaya, yet again a brutal mass rape took place in Capital of India. These unfortunate girls are known to us but plenty of unknowns are remaining as unknown. Though we Lakshadweepeans are alien to those brutalities, we should have the awareness about our sisters, those who are studying in Kerala or somewhere else. Our sisters are born and brought up in our soil without any predicaments and they are living with full freedom as their male counterparts. Our soil is not a patriarchal region or there is no male domination, but our sisters left for somewhere for better education and now our families are in a great fear about them in these new circumstances. Dear Island Sisters, this is not a modern world, but this is post-modern world, in this post-modern world, the word 'Love' is being changed to a new aspect and it may be the trap in which you raped.  Here, ABOUT LAK conveys a helpless tribute to dear Nirbaya and we convey a caution alert to our DWEEP SISTERS
